Just Another Jay

Spread the Love

When Just Another Jay came on to the cannabis scene, I knew we would be working together in some capacity soon.  The styling and photography immediately stood out to me as something special.  We are so pleased Cameron joined the #oovfam as one of our first ambassadors and can’t wait to grow our collaborative relationship with him.

Oov: What did you do prior to moving into the cannabis industry?

Cameron: I actually worked in the fashion industry for almost 10 years before moving to the cannabis industry. I was working corporate public relations/retail in New York for a long time over at Tommy Hilfiger, Banana Republic/GAP, and H&M before rethinking my career path.

Oov:   What was your motivation to get involved?

Cameron:  Feeling lost in my current position working in fashion, it was my mother who told me to start getting involved with cannabis. She suffers from chronic arthritis/pain and it took a phone call from her to convince me to move back to Arizona to find a cannabis position that suited me. I was on the hunt for awhile, then realized that I can bring more value in this industry if I become an entrepreneur in this space. Focusing on my love for marketing and my partner’s love for photography, Just Another Jay was formed.

Oov:  What advice would you give to a friend wanting to break into the cannabis space?

Cameron:  If you can’t find room to grow, whether it’s in your current position or you are wanting to break in, find an area of the industry that you’re passionate about. It took me 10 years to realize

that fashion was never a passion for me. I was ignored by a number of cannabis business people, so I created something that I know is lacking in the cannabis industry.

Oov:  How do you talk to your family about cannabis?

Cameron: My family has always been an advocate for cannabis. My mother is a patient and has been consuming since the 80’s and my father was a grower (anyone remember growing in your closet?). Cannabis was never criminalized in my home and my parents were always supportive of real education towards this plant. I never even started using cannabis until AFTER I moved back from New York. Even though my parents are supportive, they wanted us to grow up before using the product.

Oov: What are some of your concerns as legalization continues to spread?

Cameron: I fear the lack of details being focused on towards cannabis legalization. I have seen it already happen in Arizona when it comes to the lack of laws on testing requirements and product development. I hope that even though cannabis legalization is important, we make sure we set up bills that will protect patients, users, growers, etc. I worry that we are only focused on legal cannabis consumption vs. the laws we need to set in place in order to protect the future generations that are in this industry.

Oov: Tell us about your first experience with cannabis.

Cameron:  Well, it was actually one hit out of a pipe that made me rethink EVERYTHING. My partner was the person who showed me how to intake cannabis. He couldn’t believe that I had never tried it before given my family’s history. It was an immediate stress and anxiety release and I knew it was something very special.

Oov: What are your favorite products/strains right now?

Cameron:  I would be a terrible person if I didn’t mention HUXTON. They were not only the first brand to give us attention, but their products are amazing. I am a very picky user and they value a holistic approach towards their products. Their wonder woman strain is amazing! I’ve also been obsessed with Kush Queen. If you haven’t tried their bath bombs, you are missing out. They have this romantic branding that we really resonate with. We value brands that take care of their patients. I want to promote those in the industry that value a holistic, natural, and emotionally positive experience.
