Most of us have experimented with marijuana back in our high school or college days. Also, most of us have had that one horrible experience where we literally thought we were going to die. For a lot of us, it was the infamous pot brownie that did us in. So naturally, I understand when most people I talk to say they are scared, or get too paranoid. I know, I’ve been there!
For the record, research shows you would have to consume 1,500 pounds of marijuana within about fifteen minutes to induce a lethal response, which has never actually happened. So even though you may have felt legally insane for a few hours, you were safe…you just had a little too much.
Let me assure you, the cannabis industry has come a long, long way from those days. What’s amazing about today’s market is the never-ending options out there! Even further than that, what we have learned about this miraculous plant over the past decade will blow your mind (no pun intended).
We have within us a system scientists call the Endocannabinoid System (ESC). The human body produces its own cannabinoids – one of which is anandamide. Ananda, which means “bliss”, is most widely known as “the runners high”. The Endocannabinoid System consists of a series of receptors that are there to accept these cannabinoids. The ECS and its receptors are found all over the body: the brain, organs, connective tissue, and immune cells. The cannabis plant contains phyto-cannabinoids, which fit perfectly into these receptors. Cannabis stimulates our ECS and research shows that this miracle plant can manage, prevent, and even kill certain diseases.
Now let’s talk about consuming cannabis….
Without going too far into detail, it’s important to understand the different types of cannabis plants: indica and sativa. Indica has a sedative and relaxing affect – great for sleep, muscle spasms, and pain. Sativa is uplifting and preferred for daytime use. There are also many hybrids of both (bred by growers) that contain various percentages of both indica and sativa strains. There are over 480 components found in the cannabis plant. Scientists are constantly learning and studying these components, the most recognizable are THC and CBD. Most strains have been bred to be high in THC (the psychoactive component of cannabis) since it has been sought after for generations. As research advanced, other cannabinoids were discovered, one of the hottest ones right now is CBD (the non-psychoactive component of cannabis). Yes, you read right…meaning NO psychoactive affects. (You see where I’m going with this…)
We no longer have to smoke out of a psychedelic pipe or 3-foot bongs. Nor do we have to wonder how much THC is in that brownie! The innovation we are seeing within the industry right now is impressive. We have companies that are producing precisely dosed and discreet products where you literally know exactly how much THC (or no THC) you are getting. Beautifully branded “micro-dose” products like mints and sublingual strips along with vaporizers no larger than your eyeliner fit perfectly into your makeup bag. Even further than that, tinctures of pure CBD to help take the edge off and topicals specifically designed for our lady parts make for a fun night! Just want to get some deep sleep? Yea, we’ve got capsules and cannabis infused teas for that.
The industry is estimated to grow past $24 billion and you can bet that some of these companies are aiming right at moms. They know we are stressed out and they understand the need for more natural relief than what might be prescribed. Wine is wonderful, but I’m not so sure about drinking a glass of wine at 8am when both of my kids are screaming and the dog just took a dump on my white carpet. I don’t know about you, but I would much rather make myself a cup of CBD tea and go about my day.
I created Oov Lifestyle to spread the word about these amazing products and bring information and awareness to my friends and community. Having suffered from postpartum depression and struggling with anxiety on a daily basis, I find cannabis to be one of the most incredible things in my medicine cabinet. I’m a calm and present mother, I sleep great, and when I need to work, I have something that keeps me energized and focused! With so many methods, strains and products specifically designed for women and women’s health, I have no doubt in my mind that cannabis is indeed, the new “mommy wine”.
